Alan Power Architects is an award-winning RIBA chartered practice, based in London, and incorporated in 1999. Our work has been widely published. We have worked across a range of sectors, including residential, commercial, health, industrial, retail and interiors.
We work closely and collaboratively with clients. We passionately believe in the importance and value of design for our clients, stakeholders and users and in the importance of fully exploring and developing the possibilities for all our projects, according to each projectโs DNA โ the programme, the clientโs requirements, the specifics of the site, and the budget. An important early step is to review and discuss the clientโs brief and aspirations in depth and test them with some initial design studies.
We are interested in the potential for contemporary architectural expression to reflect individual experience, rather than in pursing any particular design dogma. In this way, we believe, it is possible to demonstrate the specificity and universality of architectural form: architecture as a public and a private act. We always seek an integrated approach to design โ sustainable in the broadest sense โ linking architectural ideas with the wider physical and cultural landscape.
Each project is rigorously pursued through to completion, to achieve the best possible outcome for our clients. Making architecture is a collaborative effort and we understand the importance of building a team. We value the input of all our collaborators and engage with them as early as possible so that they can inform the development of a project. We have long standing relationships with civil and structural engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers, planning consultants and landscape designers.
We emphasize the importance to clients of retaining control of all aspects of the works, to ensure a high qualitative result for each budget. Where required, we can project manage all aspects of the works through to completion on behalf of clients and we have worked with both traditional and design and build procurement routes, for all the RIBA stages of work.
Through our work we promote and emphasis the importance of the materiality of architecture in a broad sense โ how it is made and what it is made of โ resulting in close attention to the detailing of a building, and the longer-term wearability and weathering of our projects. This in turn informs the creation of highly sustainable buildings that pragmatically seek to improve on industry standards for energy consumption, balanced with, where feasible, the incorporation of on-site energy generation.
Buildings should not be understood as isolated artefacts, but, in experientially balancing enclosure and openness, as part of a broader integrated landscape, physical, cultural and natural.
